Branded SMS integration

What is Branded SMS?

Unlike traditional SMS that comes from a random long-number or short-code, Branded SMS allows your software to send messages that appear to come from a custom, alphanumeric name (e.g., YOURBRAND instead of +1234567890).

This immediately increases recognition, trust, and open rates.

Key Features & Benefits as a Software VAS

Integrating this feature provides tangible value to your clients (the end-users of your software).

Feature Benefit to Your Client Example
Custom Sender ID
Instant Brand Recognition. Recipients know immediately who the message is from, increasing trust and engagement.
Sender: ALI GROUP instead of Sender: 54321

A user sees “ALI GROUP” and knows it’s an important account notification.

Your client can see that 99.8% of their login OTPs was delivered successfully.

Technical Integration Details

Integrating a Branded SMS gateway into your software typically follows a standard API-based process.

Prerequisites

  • Service Provider Account:You must sign up with an SMS Gateway Provider (e.g., MOBILINK, ZONG, TELENOR, BIZ SMS, or a local telecom provider) that supports Alpha Sender / Branded SMS in your target regions.
  • Sender ID Registration:This is a critical step. The custom Sender ID (e.g., “ALI GROUP”) must be registered and approved with the telecom regulators and carriers in each destination country. Your SMS provider usually handles this process. It can take days to weeks and may require documentation.
  • API Credentials:The provider will give you an API KeyAuth Token, or username/password to authenticate your requests.
