How It Works: The Technical Flow

How It Works: The Technical Flow

A typical card payment involves several parties working together in seconds:

Initiation: Customer clicks a payment link or enters card details in the app.
Encryption: The app (via a Software Development Kit - SDK) encrypts the sensitive card data.
Authorization Request: The encrypted data is sent to the Payment Gateway .
Forwarding: The gateway forwards the request to the customer's Card Network (Visa, Mastercard).
Bank Check: The card network sends the request to the customer's Issuing Bank (the bank that gave them the card).
Approval/Denial: The issuing bank checks for sufficient funds and fraud, then approves or declines the transaction.
Response: The approval/denial signal travels back through the chain (Network -> Gateway -> App).
Settlement: Later, the Payment Gateway batches approved transactions and works with the Acquiring Bank (the business's bank) to move funds from the issuing banks to the business's account. This process can take 1-3 days.
